Another crazy trapeze show

Just when we thought we couldn't have a crazier trapeze show than the last one, the show tonight tried hard to compete. A day or two ago, George texted us all to let us know that he had Covid. There were some texts back and forth asking if we would still have the show, but he said, once again that the show must go on. The day of the show, the message came through that Jan had it too. If you're keeping track, we are now down 3 people (George, Jan, and the injured Kaylin). Just a he was when Rod was sick last week, and when he was sick this week--the show would continue to go on! While I agreed that it seemed a little strange to be doing this show when we were down 3 people (out of 11), I said to the group "as long as we don't lose any of our catchers, we should still be good." Just as I sent that, Robin texted the group and said he didn't think we should be doing the show with so much Covid going around, and that he wasn't going to participate. Once again, Nick would step in and take the place of one of our catchers. It was like a flashback from a week ago!

We had a good crowd this time--a backyard filled with family and friends, excited to watch our show. Mike was our ringmaster again this time--he appropriately wore his blue jacket for the Stanton show, but pulled out the red this time. 

This is pretty funny! Rod's dad took this photo and captioned it  "Dr. George and Jan watching from the owner's suite." They had the best seat in the house, and while they were bummed not to be flying with us, they were very proud to cheer us on from their private, rooftop suite. 

Going in to this show, I had pretty low expectations. It was a little strange doing the show without so many of our teammates, but we were going to power through and do our best. We wore the white costumes while Nick and I were catching. Rod doesn't get to fly too much in the shows since he can't fly to me, but he always enjoys when he gets the chance. He and Nick had some good catches!

Nadia and Robin have been working on this new style of return called an Angel. Nick had never done an angel return with anyone before, but during practice today they got it figured out and did it perfectly! Nice work, both of you! 

Ali threw me her flexus and her double tuck (we didn't catch that one though). The flexus went well, as did all the other catches I had. 

We changed into our fanciest costumes for Rod's catching, and finished the show strong!

While we were all a little hesitant going in to this show, it was actually one of our best ones yet. We all flew really well and had so much fun. I think it was partly because we weren't taking it too seriously this time, and didn't put as much pressure on ourselves to perform. So many things had gone wrong between the last show and this one, that we had to just get through it. 

I had a bunch of friends come who hadn't been to a show before. My good friend Sadie was there with her husband and their little girl, and a couple friends. Her daughter Madi had so much fun, and can't wait to get to try it out someday. Sadie said that for days afterwards, she was walking around the house saying "ready, hep!" A few of my student workers and my friend Cara were there, and so was my friend Danielle and her family. It's always fun to perform, and I'm so relieved this show went well. I'm really looking forward to taking a break after all the stress of the last few weeks.
