I was trying to remember when we got the old Christmas train from my mom’s friend Vikki. According to my blog, it first appeared on the blog in 2009 as you’ll see in this post. Well, that train provided many hours of Christmas entertainment for Tyler, but sadly, it was not suited to the high impact “playing” Tyler did with it. We found at the end of the Christmas season last year that the nearly 40 year old train would no longer go around the tracks. Tyler wanted Dave to try to fix it, but I planted a bug in my parents’ ear that the kids might like a new Christmas train, and that the Polar Express train was on sale. Well, Grandma and Grandpa came through! The kids got to open an early Christmas present from them the first night they were in town. Tyler and I talked about getting this train if I could find a good price on it, and he’d been asking and asking about it for a couple weeks now. He even wrote a note to Percy, their Christmas Shelf Elf, if Percy could please fix his train for him, or bring him a new Polar Express train. Let me tell you, since the train showed up, it is by far the most popular thing in our house. Tyler seems to be reliving his old train-loving days. It might be hard to put this baby away when Christmas is over! It is so realistic, just like the train in the movie. It has a remote control that plays train sounds, and has the voice of the conductor in the movie saying “all aboard, this is the Polar Express,” so it sounds like Tom Hanks is in our house. We woke up on Saturday morning at about 6:45 am to the sounds of a train in our living room. Thanks so much for the new train, Grandma and Grandpa! The kids love it, and it will be part of their Christmas memories forever.
