Here we are again, another Halloween at MCC Red Mountain. This was the 6th year that our campus has hosted the Halloween Extravaganza, and it always ends up being a fabulous night. This year was no exception. The slight difference this year was that we didn't beg faculty to offer extra credit for candy donations, and figured we'd buy what we needed. Little did we know though, this event has become part of our campus culture and is written into the class syllabus in many classes. It didn't matter that we didn't ask them to offer it--they just did, and we had plenty of candy!
We had a club from our other campus come out this year and set up a dance party. They had the game Just Dance on an XBox with disco lights, professional speaker system, drones, and much more. It was crazy!
The guests starting showing up shortly after 5, and the event doesn't start until 5:30. We had to scramble to get everything out in time. We need to remember that for next year--set up and ready to serve candy by 5!
It was a little warm during the day (we had a very hot October), but it was a beautiful evening that started out with a pretty sunset.
My Events Council group had a fun Circus table. They made it look like they were in a circus tent and had a popcorn balloon arch entrance. Very creative!
Here is my family--White Pumpkin (this is about the only time he wore this mask that Dave spent a bunch of time making), cowgirl, and Super Dave/Super Dad.
My friend Niccole is a Geography professor at the college, and if we would have had a costume contest, she would have won with her tornado costume. It even lit up!
There were some student groups who really went all out with their booths this year. This group had the best theme/costumes with their Nightmare Before Christmas booth.
I included this picture to give you an idea of the crowd that comes to this event. We estimate about 1700 attended this year. Our counter stopped at 1450, but there are tons of people who come in the other entrances who don't get counted. It felt like the busies one we've had, with the traffic being steady all night.
I went with the Wonder Woman costume this year. There were quite a few of us out there.
The "Critter" table is always a big hit. They had out a snake, a Gila Monster, tarantula, and some scorpions.
I love this family picture, and I think it's especially funny that we're being photo bombed by a giant inflatable creepy skeleton man.
One of my long-term student workers came back for the fun. It was great to see Ricardo!
The family contingent at this event has dwindled over the years. We've had all the cousins there some years, but this year it was the Dairmans, Crawfords, and the Howards.
Ashley was a huge help as always. I'm so lucky to have her help in the office every day. She brings her friendly and helpful attitude with her every day, and is loved on campus by so many. If you don't know what she is.... "Oh Deer!"

Wrapping up another successful Halloween Extravaganza at MCC Red Mountain. As much as I dread this event every year, it really is a pretty amazing thing that we've created for our community over the years. I'm always extremely relieved when it's over though!
